Gurpreet Singh Sandhu born February 1992 is an Indian professional Footballer who plays as a Goalkeeper for Indian super League club Bangaluru and the India national team. Gurpreet Singh Sandhu put in tough hours over his time for East Bengal, and Sandhu briefly borrowed him to Pailan Arrows in the 2010-11 period. His accomplishment after returning to East Bengal showed a huge transition. He get the attention of foreign scouts of a 199 cm imposing shot-stopper. For a red-letter day for him, on 15 August 2014, Sandhu signed for the Norwegian club Stabaek. Then he joined the select group of Inidans to perform club football on foreign soil.

On 5 November 2009, Sandhu made his debut for the Indian 19 against the Iraq U19s in the 2010 AFC U-19 Championship qualification.

Gurpreet was then called up for 23 senior Indian teams for the 2011 AFC Asian Cup. He Constructed his debut against Turkmenistan in a 1-1 draw. He was retired to the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier team against Nepal but remained in both legs.

India in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where he formed his 35th appearance for the squad against Oman on 5 September 2019, where he admitted two goals as India lost the match 1-2.

International Career

Gurpreet made his debut for the India U-19s against the Iraq U-19s in the 2010 AFC U-19 Championship qualification on 5 November 2009. Gurpreet received his first Indian team call up at the 2011 AFC Asian Cup. Also he made his debut against Turkmenistan in a 1-1 draw. Gurpreet failed to make a national team appearance following the game against Turkmenistan for four years. However, he was recalled into the Indian team in 2014, a year after joining Stabeak.

In 2014, he joined Stabeak and within the year, he was recalled to the Indian team, For the next two years, Gurpreet set himself as India’s top choice goalkeeper.

After Gurpreet Moved to the BFC, a delighted Constantine said, “At Bengaluru, he will play.” He added, ” He did not start in Stabeak, which was a concern for me, and I told him last year that you need to be playing games if you have to go to the next level.

Gurpreet was called up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier squad against Nepal in 2015. He made his second appearance for the senior team against Iran in a 2018 World cup qualifier at Bangalore.

In 2016, Gurpreet captained India to a memorable 4-1 thrashing of Puerto Rico and played as essentially defensive role against Kyrgysthan in a 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualification game.
